If an aircraft carrier could travel at 200 knots and a fighter was?

This is an interesting thought experiment. I think the short answer is "yes," because this is exactly how aircraft perform air refueling -- the receiver closes in on the tanker until the relative speed between them is zero. It's also how I used to hold position over ships to pick up patients for medical evacuation -- basically, the ship would head into the wind and I would match its speed and "fly formation" on it to stay over it. That said, an aircraft carrier capable of going as fast as the aircraft it serves could carry any size aircraft desired. Unfortunately, I don't think the technological challenges associated with doing so will be overcome in our lifetimes, unless some form of Ground effect vehicle can be pressed into this kind of application. Thanks for the A2A!
